In defining the Marquard & Bahls strategy, sustainability was deliberately anchored as a binding value for our company. We are aware of the potential impact of our business activities on people and the environment, and therefore try to integrate the principle of sustainable development in all our activities and to promote the welfare of our employees, the environment, and the surrounding communities.
The following six overarching strategic action areas determine our success:
In accordance with our core business, our sustainability management focuses on the areas of health, safety, security & environment (HSSE), and is therefore based on the activities coordinated by the HSSE Department on holding level. There is also a separate Sustainability team within the HSSE Department. It pools all related activities and further develops them in close coordination with local HSSE managers.
To anchor the afore mentioned six key strategic issues in our global activities we use various instruments and measures. This includes anchoring the issue at the highest level of management through our HSSE Policy, a focus on internationally accredited guidelines and standards, and the Code of Conduct, which is binding for all our employees. Other tools include internal audits, the implementation of certified management systems, and a statistical monitoring of key performance indicators (Key Performance Indicators – KPIs).
