New Energy Gate Hamburg

At our Blumensand tank terminal in the Port of Hamburg, one of Germany's first large import terminals for new energy is being built. With our project scope, we enable practical entry into the hydrogen economy and help pave the way for a vital energy transition.

About New Energy Gate Hamburg

The New Energy Gate Hamburg is an example of one of our major commitments to the energy transition - and to the arrival of imported clean energy in Hamburg. We are creating space for hydrogen products and renewable energy at our large Blumensand tank terminal in the heart of the Port of Hamburg.

Import of clean Ammonia

The first step is to set up an infrastructure for importing clean ammonia. A tank is being built at our Blumensand Terminal for the temporary storage of imported ammonia. Next to this, our anchor customer Air Products plans to use an H2 production unit to split the ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen and prepare it for distribution.

Timeline

Mabanaft plans to have the import terminal operational in 2027. However, the timeline is subject to the approval process with the Hamburg Authority "Behörde für Umwelt, Klima, Energie und Agrarwirtschaft" (BUKEA).
